We finally got around to finishing our gingerbread house last night and I wanted to share a few pictures! This has become a tradition in our family, making one each year. My husband does the work of assembling the house, and then Ali does most of the decorating (hubby and I do a bit too). Connor, who is 14 now, doesn't seem to want to be bothered with it anymore (sniff sniff, why do they have to grow up)!

We always buy a kit, although years ago I actually made one from scratch (that's a lot of work though!) Kit's are the way to go imo!

If you have little ones but haven't started this tradition in your family, I highly recommend it! It really isn't difficult to do, it makes a festive decoration for the holidays, and my kids love taking it apart and eating it on New Year's Day ;)
So Cute! I remember building gingerbread houses when the kids were much younger. I still have the molds for them too. It is sad when the kids no longer want to join and help with holiday festivities. Once pass the 'difficult years' and they are in their twenties, they start to come back to it all! Happy Holidays!
ReplyDeleteWe are working on one today since it is a snow day here with our 1/8th inch of snow :) LOVE IT .........
ReplyDeleteI too have fond memories of making a gingerbread house with my Carly. Even though your son no longer wants to help with the house, I bet he would secretly be very upset if that was no longer a tradition in your home. I bet he has great memories stored up about this fun holiday tradition. Both your kids will remember this forever. Tell Ali she did a great job decorating her beeautiful house.
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful family tradition! One of these days your son will turn around again and remember the gingerbreadhouse with fondness!
ReplyDeleteThis is so cute!! I miss doing these kinds of things with my kids! Since they are all grown now, they have started doing things like this with their own families. I get to help with a few since the majority of my kids live out of state now.
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun tradition and such a cute house! You all did a great job decorating. I had to LOL at Connor. Sounds like my brother at that age! Don't worry, he'll grow out of it. Very adorable house! Love it!
ReplyDeleteDiane this turned out so CUTE!!! What a FUN tradition!!
ReplyDeleteHope your day is GREAT!
My family is grown and gone, and sadly we've never had a tradition of making a gingerbread house, but after seeing this, I wish we had! My mom always bought one for us, but the joy has to be in making and decorating it! You've all done a wonderful job and it looks deliciously sweet! Yum!
ReplyDeleteThat sounds and looks like lots of fun there!
ReplyDeleteWe make gingerbread houses every year, too. I definitely agree on using the kits! It's so much easier. We need to get ours done still. On the agenda tomorrow is baking Christmas cookies. :) Have a great weekend, Diane!
ReplyDeleteVery cute. Sounds like a lot of fun too!
ReplyDeleteSUPER! FANTASTIK HOUSE!!!
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun gingerbread house Diane :) Haven't put one together yet, but there is still time! :) Happy Holidays!
ReplyDeleteWe do this every year and the kids sure do remember if you've "not" made them yet! I buy the kits every year after Christmas....seriously for like 50 cents. Who can pass that up for a wonderful holiday memory? This is on our agenda for this weekend!
ReplyDeleteThis house looks too good to seriously consider to eat it. I bet the owners won't have a hard time at all finding a moving company for this delight.
ReplyDeleteSo pretty! We have this fun tradition too! Last year I bought a kit, but this year my husband decided to try it from scratch. I was amazed at how well it turned out and my kids are so proud of their houses! I have noticed some candy missing here and there...
ReplyDeleteso cute! love the colorful candies you used to decorate it!
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun gingerbrad house Diane! Thank you for sharing it!
